Increasing Web Traffic ? Setting Goals to Reach Your Target ...

For Internet marketers, one of the most meaningful terms in the English language is the term ?web traffic?. Web traffic completely dictates how successful every Internet marketer is. If you have web traffic, then you can monetize a website. If you don?t, then you don?t have anything. Every Internet marketer is concerned with getting more web traffic. You can never have enough of it. No one ?in history has ever said ?I wish that I didn?t have so much web traffic?.

How you get website traffic, however, is where a lot of people get stumped. A good number of ambitious, young people new to the industry falter and give up in the beginning because of it.?Successful Internet marketers will often say that the day they exceeded 100 hits was considered a major milestone, and that 1000 hits per day is where the business starts to get serious.

New people to the industry, however, often look at their websites pulling in less than 75 hits per day and dejectedly wonder if they will ever get past that 1000 hits per day mark. It can seem like an impossible task to someone who is just starting out, but in reality it is possible for anyone who can stick to it and not give up. But what does it take? How do you get started?

Effective Goal Setting

As with any milestone, the only way you can move past it is by working towards it. It is important, however, to remember that streamlining the process to avoid wasting time is extremely important. A lot of people never truly create a clear focal point to ?hone in? on, which causes them to wander here and there. They waste time jumping from this that, wondering why they never really get anything major accomplished.

The only way to avoid this very common pitfall is to effectively set goals for yourself. This applies not only to your affiliate marketing endeavors, but to your personal life as well. You need to visualize what you want, and then figure out what it will take to get you there. In a recent episode of the ?Affiliate Buzz?, James Martell actually shared his 7 step guide to effective goal setting. I thought that it was very insightful to learn how one of the most prolific affiliate marketers of the modern world plans out his goals, and the formula did not disappoint.

  1. Write down your goals
  2. List all of the reasons why reaching them are important to you
  3. Identify all of the obstacles that you will need to overcome
  4. Identify all of the people, services, and resources that you will need to enlist to achieve your goals
  5. Identify the exact things that you need to do personally to reach your goal
  6. Develop a set of action steps that you will need to follow
  7. Assign specific time frames to each of the steps

As you can see, the list is actually fairly simple, but you would be surprised at how many people look at a list like this, acknowledge it, think about it, but do not put it into effect! If you want to grow your web traffic, achieve financial freedom, own a Ferrari, or whatever it is that you want to do, you are going to need to identify, track, and analyze your goals before you can really make a plan for accomplishing them.

Create A ?Road Map?

In a lot of ways, planning out and analyzing your goals is like creating a very detailed map. Would you really plan a trip to another state without looking at a map first? Nobody just jumps into their car without having any idea how to get where they are going with the expectation that they will eventually arrive at their destination! That would be absurd. Yet, we all do this, to an extent, in our personal and professional lives by not setting effective goals that we can track and monitor.
It is also a good idea to have some motivators in place. Do you want to increase web traffic? Read other blogs that do get a lot of web traffic and study them. Do you want to own a Ferrari someday?

Buy yourself a Ferrari cap and keep it on your desk to remind you of what you are working towards! It is important to stay focused and motivated whenever you are trying to achieve something for yourself, and Internet marketing is no exception.
